Hey all, just thought id pop in here.

Ben was kind enough to make me up a manifold and source a nice GT17 turbo, this will be going in my 1967 Morris Mini Moke, which should make for a fun summer car Wink

Here is the moke:

This is what ive got so far, managed to finally source a carb+plenum+intake manifold for $300 from the UK, RE13T is being ground at GR's

What else do i need to get?:
Rising rate fuel regulator
BOV
Boost controller
bigger fuel pump??
????

What needs to be done to the fuel tank to make it suitable?

hey matt,

Moke looks Great , cant wait to see how your engine goes. You do need a rising rate regulator > Metro turbo one is the go.

Bov > if your using standard plenum and no intercooler you will not need.

Boost controller , only if you wish to run more than 7PSI boost as that is what you actuator is. If you increse boost i would Highly recomend a intercooler

Fuel Pump> This has to be capable of 3-4psi greater than boost levels at all times. SO if boost is 7Psi you need minimum 10psi fuel pressure (fuel increases 1psi per 1psi boost) I would make sure you have some reserve for boost spike.

Fuel tank will need a return line 8mm (5/16'') is the go And use a EFI fuel pump like VL commodore that way you have up to arouund 40psi fuel pressure avaliable.

That would be suitable then? Is an in-tank pump needed or just this VL pump? (or is it an in-tank one?)

The 8mm line goes from the regulator back to the tank directly? ie. i drill a hole into my current moke tank so un-used fuel can flow back into it?

Head will be just a 295'd 202 with 27.5cc chambers (hopefully)

carb, intake mani, and plenum arrived and are in great condition... What needle did you use Ben?

Oh, and also, oil and water lines...

Pirtek the best to get these made up? oil line is self explanatory, banjo front of block oil into turbo, drain into place where mechanical fuel pump used to be...

water line? bottom hose with branch for the in, then back to the top hose for the out or...?

Pump just use external vl that will be easiest plumbing wise, regulator has return fitting just pipe back to tank and dump in. ALternatively i believe you can tee back into the out line between tank and pump.

Needle i just use a STD metro turbo BDD , is fine up to 15psi so far (intercooled) but is fairly rich on idle .

For oil feed just go on ebay and type in gt17 oil feed (that will be the cheapest option) ,The best looking option is go to seven hills Motorsport connections Take you wallet !! but you wont be dissapointed Smile

ok, shopping list as it stands:

oil feed+drain
water line
regulator
vl pump
head work/new head (may have a 295 on radar from UK)
get a dump pipe worked out
various filters, T piece, and 8mm efi fuel hose

things that engine needs done:
change cam
change followers
get a Drmini oil pressure relief valve ball to get my oil pressure up (my engine hates traffic and will frequently drop to 15pounds of pressure on a warm day at the traffic lights...)
(maybe paint it while its out)


Looking to the future a little... how does one set boost/psi on an engine? i plan to run 6-7psi with no intercooler

you can use a manual boost tee , which you fit between the actuator and the takeoff on the compressor. And it will bleed off air to fool the actuator (the actuator will open when it gets to 7psi) So if you bleed off 3psi it will have to go to 10psi befor the actuator will see 7psi

Or

you can use a EBC (electronic boost controller) which does the same thing but is much better control and can help the turbo to spool better due to better wastegate contol.

Pump is sorted. (Conveniently cousin works at street commodores) may also help me source most of the other parts... still haven't picked a head yet... cam is now with the Carb and turbo in a lovely box of pieces, all this headway will slow down soon due to uni commitments but I'll still try get it all done before Christmas, Ben, expect ur phone to get a whole bunch of messages... :p

just a couple of pics to keep me motivated.... need to find a 10 or 15 bend of silicone tube to join the plenum to the compressor out tube (they are just off a little) or a pipe bender lol

have quiet literally all of the parts except for a head.... im going to open up a 202 ive got lying around as finding a 295 seems impossible, and i dont want to go down the big bore head path...

looking good , how far out is the compressor ? you can rotate the compressor housing a little if it needs to go back? or if needs to go forwards i would just cut it a bit shorter and use a longer silicon that way you have more flex.

also have you sorted out your oil feed and drain? And the water cooling is optional but id recommend it.

its not ridiciulously out of whack, ie. if i were to bolt everything together it would all sort of squeeze together... but there would be immense strains on the silicone hose and the actuator arm, i like the idea of cutting shorter for more flex... might do that instead.

Oil feed is a $40 ebay special with a $8 banjo fitting from the fittings bloke in silverwater, water feed hasnt been set up.... i dont know where to dump the water after its seen the turbo... top of radiator would be ideal as it would be HOT, i dont like the idea of putting back into bottom hose as it will just force hot water around the block... thoughts?

i get the water from the end of the cylinder head just tee into the heater take off and return to a rover thermostat housing spacer

Alas, this is sitting on the back-burner at the mo, just been made redundant from work (hell easy well paying bar job, but boss was done for tax evasion lol) and uni is amping up (and taking most of my time... im a student Nurse) i need to work more, and procrastinate more for this thing to get done... ive started cleaning up a 12g202 (i had 4 on the shelf) so im hopefully going to do most of the work myself... 28.5cc chambers is the goal... will put some piccys up soon!

the parts are all dribbling in though, got my oil feed line from ebay, i think ill just butcher up a bit of metal and hose for the drain... water lines are sorted

have decided to buy a new oil pump as my oil pressure woes keep annoying me... so hopefully all should be done soonish (dont hold ya breath, still need to get some work and for uni to slow down)

That sucks about work. Have you got another job yet?

As for progress, you're going well...in fact you're years ahead of me! Your moke has had rego in the past 20 years haha

man i need to stop by here more often...

Work is back on the straight and narrow, due to this semesters study load not alot work can be had...

Anywho, moke was re-rego'd a couple weeks back, put a hs6 i had lying around on for the time being, still waiting on bloody oil hoses for turbo(its been 5 weeks...)Evil or Very Mad 

i scored a 12g206 for my head (uber rare i know, but i wont be butchering it) just needs a couple of valves and guides and will be ready to bolt on! chambers are something like 28.3cc or close to that, so no dramas Smile

most everything else is sorted, humming and ah'ing about going on the rylstone rally in a couple of weeks, not sure if im that keen on freezing temps in the moke.

have been doing alot of maintenance work on him over the past couple of months, new shocks, cv's, brake shoes, shit like that, also decided that i need another shot at painting him, so ill be re-painting the same colour when it starts to warm up, and maybe even consider plastidipping the inside tub black (or if i can get my orange in plastidip id do the whole bloody car)bounce bounce bounce 

not sure if there is anything else to add, just wish i could finish getting all pieces together and then WHAM then a one day turbo conversion day with write up or something like that... this is taking too f'n long.

Alright, 206 is nearly done at GRs, got new oil pump, cam and followers awaiting to go in. Currently seeking cheap silicone hose for plenum to compressor. Have 2m length of 2" pipe, just need to find a shop willing to bend up for me for dump pipe. Slowly slowly

looking mint now i want a moke! it will go like stink with the turbo nice n light!

i notice the exhaust wrapping looks "baggy" if you wet it in a bucket of water then wrap it you can get it real tight as thats when it work best a healthy 50%+ over lap is good to.. just something ive come across with my super long exhaust manifold

Brad, the 206 in essence is the same as a 295, from what ive read they were used on early coopers, sprites and automatics... this one that i got had been on someones shelf for yeeeeeeears, its getting a sodablast, new valve guides and new valves at the moment.

i guess i should do an update too...

Head is back from GR's, very quick easy job for him, should work beautifully.

Oil -fuckin- fittings: had been waiting for aggggggggggggges to get these fittings off ebay, they finally arrived last week... AND THEY'RE THE WRONG F'N SIZE!
sent off my well worded email... should be interesting to see the reply, have since decided to just make the piping up myself, banjo bolts and the like... GRRRRRRRR

Cam is waiting, followers are waiting, oil pump is waiting, fuel pump is sitting waiting, fairly confident i have all parts now, just sitting and waiting... currently on prac for the next month and a bit, sadly means i dont get alot of daylight hours to do anything (have to work sat+sun for actual money...)

But yeh... thats basically where its all at right now.
